_headford mill
Headford Mill is a conservation project completed during my time at Giaimo + Associates Architects. The rubblestone remnants on the site belong to the foundations of a historic wood frame grist mill constructed around 1832. Our recommendations involved a overall repair strategy, involving excavation and rebuilding of certain highly fragmented areas, reframing of the deteriorated window openings with salvaged old growth lumber, and encasement of the walls in a metal channel and mesh "skin".
This strategy allowed for future deterioration to take place within a controlled gabion wall type structure, while the ruins return to the surrounding natural landscape as they had been doing prior to surrounding recent interventions.
